Team History
Team 590 was started in 2000; this is
their seventh year in competition. During our first year we started with
only eight members and went to Houston. We have been to the Lone Star
Regional in Houston, Texas for three years; to the Peachtree Regional in
Duluth, Georgia for three years; and 2007 will be our first year going
to the Bayou Regional in New Orleans, Louisiana.
We have won several awards: Lone Star
judge’s award during our second year, Peachtree judge’s award during our
fourth year, Motorola quality award and Peachtree Regional finalist
award both during our sixth year. We have built seven robots, Tushka
1-7, and competed for seven consecutive years using each robot,
respectively. We were sponsored by Chahta Electronics Enterprises and by
a start-up grant from NASA during our first two years. We were sponsored
solely by Chahta Electronics Enterprises during our third and fourth
years, Chahta Enterprises during our fifth year, we were self-funded
during our sixth year, and now during our seventh year we are sponsored
by a grant from NASA.

Team 590 has participated in some
community projects. For five years we have hosted the local First Lego
League Tournament involving approximately 100 Choctaw children. We have
also participated in the local Veteran’s Day parade for two years, for
which we have built floats and during our first year we showcased our
robot. This the second year that we have attended the National Kid’s Day
hosted by Boys &Girls Club; there we entertained children by teaching
them to build water rockets. During the past year we hosted a Lego camp,
where we taught them to build a simple robot from Lego and to create a
basic program.
